Where can I get the old Disney movie "Song of the South" on dvd in English?
I do not want subtitles, copies or bootlegs. I know Disney pulled this movie from dvd release in the US.
Song of the South was never made on DVD - I am absolutely 100% sure. I am a Disney Movie collector and searched long for a good copy of this movie. It wasn't pulled from DVD release, it just was never made on DVD. It's VHS was not released in the US, due to arguments over the supposed glorification of slavery depicted in it. The only format this movie was ever released in in English with no subtitles was VHS in PAL format (European).
You Can get a real VHS of it in English - no copies, no bootlegs, no subtitles. You'd have to go to Ebay, which is where I went to also. Read the descriptions very carefully before you purchase. Once you have it, you can convert it to DVD, or keep the VHS version. The PAL format will play on American dual format (PAL/NTSC) VCR's. It won't play on regular VCR's, unless they are able to play the PAL format. Check your VCR first, or call around to some shops to see if you can get it converted.
I know it's frustrating. I really, really hoped to find this on DVD also and was disappointed to discover that it will never be released in the U.S. Good Luck finding a VHS!
